Sir,
Mr K B Jandial’s Straight Talk” Will anyone own struggle for Accession Day?” too is good piece. I would, however, venture to suggest civil society to spearhead a constructive cause of pruning public holidays to the bare minimum and devise a mechanism to celebrate anniversaries of the great personalities like Maharaja Hari Singh and Sheikh Abdullah without closing public Offices for Holidays which have already a long list in all States. The Centre is comparatively better as it restricting the number to 16 in a year. Official celebrations can be held on such events, say for a couple of hrs with active public participations. It is high time Govt. works akin to Pvt. Sector where speed and efficiency are the hallmark with minimum wastage of time by way of holidays or limited office working hrs.

Sir,
“Tendency for asking more holidays should be curbed which directly means less work and less productive. It indirectly means skipping Govt work for one more day with full pay out of public exchequer. Doing any service to the community is unthinkable. Same people while working in the private sector or foreign countries never ask for additional leave or curtailment of working hours. We should change the work culture with the changing world. Celebrate birthdays with reinforced commitment to work more for the common man. The civil society must debate on it.
