Inter-state drug cartel busted, 2 arrested with 485 kgs poppy straw

JAMMU, Sept 16: Pacca Danga police under ‘Operation Sanjeevani’ busted inter state drug cartel with the arrest of two persons hailing from Srinagar and recovery of 485 kilograms of poppy straw.

As per police sources, based on reliable information, a team comprising the sleuths from Pacca Danga Police Station Panjtirthi Police Post and Special Operation Group (SOG) laid a naka at Circular Road and signaled a truck bearing registration number JK03A-8030.
On seeing police cops, the driver accelerated the vehicle and escaped from the spot. Stinking something fishy, the cops chased the vehicle and intercepted it near some distance from the naka point.
During checking, police recovered 485 kilograms of poppy straw from the truck and arrested two persons.
The arrested persons have been identified as Salman Khan, son of Bashir Ah Khan of Shalipura Kulgam and Mohammad Aslam, son of Abdul Rehman of Samthin, Bijbehara.
During preliminary investigation, it came to fore that the accused had brought the consignment from Srinagar and was smuggling it to Punjab. The accused had built a separate compartment in the truck and had concealed the consignment in it.
A case under FIR Number 128/17 under relevant Sections has been registered at Pacca Danga Police Station and investigation started.
Police team led by SHO Pacca Danga SI Dheeraj Nagpal and Incharge Panjtirthi Police Post SI SI Manoj Kumar made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO City Varun Jandial, and Incharge SP City Vinay Sharma.
