JAMMU, Aug 20: In an emergency meeting held under the chairmanship of Dr Vikas Sharma, the members of SKUAST-Teaching Association Jammu (SKUAST-TAJ) and members of Non-Teaching Employees Association (NTEA-J) said that the establishment of Horticulture / Veterinary University in the J&K will not be acceptable at the cost of Advance Centers and Veterinary Campus of SKUAST-Jammu.
Criticizing State Government proposal, SKUAST-TAJ president Dr Vikas Sharma said that such decision will paralyze and impede the functioning of this already existing / acclaimed Agricultural University of Jammu division. “On one side the proposal of SKUAST-Jammu for much required additional faculties viz., Faculty of Horticulture, Faculty of Agricultural Engineering and Faculty of Dairy Technology has been made hostage by State Government to the process of seeking repeated queries from the last 12 years and on the other side, Government is planning to snatch already established Advance Centres and Veterinary Faculty of SKUAST-J,” he said.
Vikas lamented that despite the Governor’s intervention for establishment of new faculties of SKUAST-J, not even a single additional faculty was sanctioned to SKUAST-J for the reasons best known to the persons at the helm of affairs in the State Government administration.
Dr Vivak M. Arya, general secretary of TAJ, said that two independent Veterinary Campuses are already functioning properly under SKUAST-J and SKUAST-K and that are more than sufficient to cater to the needs of people of Jammu and Kashmir.
P D K Uppal, president Non Teaching Employees Association said that it was very unfortunate that instead of strengthening newly established Advance Centres, Veterinary Campus of SKUAST-J, Government is planning to snatch them from the established organization. He warned that teaching association and non teaching employees of SKUAST-J will fight tooth and nail to protect the interests of this only farm and professional University of Jammu region.
The meeting was attended by Dr Pradeep Kumar Rai, Dr Devinder Sharma, Dr Rajeev Bharat, Dr Anil Bhat, Zameer-ul-Haq, Gursanjeevan, Naresh Bhatt and others.
