JAMMU, Oct 30: The Government is committed to strengthen the democratic institutions.
Minister for Industries and Commerce, Surjit Singh Slathia said this while addressing public meetings at Burj Tanda and Bana Chak in Vijaypur constituency here today.
He said empowerment of democratic institutions at the grassroots level is vital to meet the aspirations of the people and give them their rightful place in the matters of governance. He said that elections to BDCs too would be held as soon as the matter of reservations for SCs and STs and women is finalized.
He said that it is the vision of Chief Minister to see vibrant, transparent and accountable structures of governance in the State with the active participation of the people. The PRIs would act as the eyes and ears of the Government and will help in better delivery of services.
Slathia said that the Government functionaries will have to change their mindset to adopt to new ways and means of participative governance.
Later, the Minister inaugurated 3 additional classrooms and toilet complex in Government Middle School Burj Tanda in Vijaypur constituency under Sarva Shiksha Abhiyan (SSA) completed at a cost of Rs. 10 lakh.
Addressing pubic meeting at Burj Tanda, the Minister assured the people that the demands being raised by them would be redressed at the earliest.
The demands included safe drinking water, installation of hand pumps at Ratanpur and Dayala Chak, upgradation of Dayalchak School, repair of Shamshan Ghat to Tanda road, action against industries violating the norms of pollution control in the area, installation of transformer at various locations, etc.
The Minister also dedicated Rs. 1.80 Women Sanitary Complex constructed by Rural Development Department and community path under MGNREGA at a cost of Rs. 3.70 lakh at Bana Chak.
The Minister also handover keys to 21 Massey tractor buyers at a function organized by M/s Ch. Jaswant Motors Swankha Morh Vijaypur at Bana Chak.
