SMVDCoN plans scholarship scheme for meritorious students

JAMMU, July  29: The process for admission for the second batch of the 4 year B. Sc. Nursing Course at the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing (SMVDCoN), Kakryal, has been completed and classes for the second batch will start from July 31.
It is pertinent to recall that 60 girl students have been admitted for the second batch (2017-18), like the first batch (2016-17), for the 4 year B. Sc. Nursing Course, based on an Entrance Examination followed by aptitude assessment/ interview.
This was stated at the 16th meeting of the Governing Body of the SMVDCoN held here under the chairmanship of Maj. Gen. S. K. Sharma (Retd), Member Shrine Board; and attended by A. K. Sahu, CEO Shrine Board; Dr. V. Verma, Dean, SMVDU; Dr (Brig) M. M. Harjai, Administrator; and Dr. Shailla Cannie, Principal of the College.
With a view to inculcate competitive spirit among the students and provide financial assistance to the meritorious as well as underprivileged students to enable them to pursue professional course, the Governing Body prepared a draft of Scholarship Scheme for the meritorious students of the SMVDCoN. These scholarships will be awarded to the six students, three each in the categories of Merit Scholarship and Merit-cum-Means Scholarship.
The scheme will be implemented after the declaration of the result of the second semester and after getting its approval from the Governor (Chairman SMVDSB)/ Board. A Scholarship Scheme Monitoring Committee will be constituted for implementation and monitoring of the scheme and the scholarship amount will be credited directly into the account of the selected students.
The Governing Body also discussed and approved the modalities and theme for organising Inter-College Competition by the SMVDCoN for the students of the various nursing colleges of the State which is scheduled to be held in February 2018. The theme of this 2-day event will be ‘TARANG’ and comprise debate, quiz and on spot poster competitions, sports and cultural events.
The Governing Body also approved the participation of the students of the SMVDCoN in the national level biennial competition to be organised by the Student Nurses Association of India at Guntur in Andhra Pradesh from November 29 to December 3, 2017.
