Promotion of regional languages

Sir,
Refer news item ‘Altaf for equal promotion of regional languages’ DE July 26.
The statement made by Minister for Education with regard to promotion of all the regional languages, particularly Kashmiri and Dogri is more than welcome.
Jammu and Kashmir State which is divided into three provinces- Ladakh, Jammu and Kashmir has the distinction of having numerous languages spoken by a wide spectrum of people. These languages are not only sweet but also rich repositories of wisdom and knowledge.
These languages need to be patrionised by extending all possible Government help or they will extinct with passage of time. But no such attempt should be made which is aimed at harming one language at the cost of another. This only creates friction, and animosity among people, instead of fostering communal harmony and brotherhood.
The decision of the State Government to teach Kashmir in 40 Degree Colleges of Jammu region seems to be an attempt to impose Kashmiri on Dogri speaking people. This has created resentment among the people here, and may lead to an unwarranted situation. Hence the Government must desist from doing so. Instead, the Government must promote three major languages- Dogri, Kashmiri and Bodhi in schools of respective region.
Yours etc….
