SRINAGAR, Oct 25: Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today reviewed the progress of work on 4-laning of Jammu-Srinagar National Highway at a high level meeting in which officers of National Highway Authority of India presented details of the construction work under execution at various places on this prestigious highway project.
The Minister for Revenue, Raman Bhalla, Minister of State for R&B Javaid Dar, Chief Secretary Madav Lal, Principal Secretaries B. B. Vyas, A. K. Agarwal, Commissioner Secretaries Tanveer Jehan, B. A. Runiyal, Ajaz Iqbal, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Asgar Samoon, Divisional Commissioner Jammu Pradeep Gupta, Chief Engineers and other senior officers were present in the meeting besides Project Director and other officers of National Highway Authority of India.
Taking brief on the progress of road length between Srinagar to Banihal, the Chief Minister directed for fast tracking measures to decongest Panthachowk and removing traffic jam problem there.
Omar Abdullah also stressed on removing bottlenecks on account of acquisition of land, payment of compensation and pending cases in the courts. He said joint efforts need to be taken to ensure smooth progress on the construction of 4-lane National Highway from Lakhanpur to Srinagar. He said completion of this road will not only help keep the highway open throughout but also help to generate more economic activities in the State.
The Chief Minister reviewed the status of progress on construction of tunnels between Qazigund and Banihal and between Chennai and Nashri on the National Highway.
Speaking in the meeting, Minister for Revenue, Raman Bhalla impressed upon the National Highway Authority of India to also launch fly-overs which have been envisaged in the four laning of National Highway Project.
He also stressed on electrification of Sidhra bye-pass by the National Highway Authority to avoid traffic hazards during the night. He asked the National Highway Authority to also install lights on the National Highway by-passes constructed by the authority under the project.
