Srinagar: Security forces today trapped the terrorists in Kulgam, South Kashmir, where an encounter is continuing.
The Inspector General of Police, Kashmir Range, Munir Ahmad Khan said that security forces and Special Operation Group (SOG) of Jammu and Kashmir police launched a joint operation following a tip off about the presence of terrorists at Arwani in Kulgam district, where a police constable was killed and a woman injured by gunmen last evening.
The IGP said when the security forces were moving towards particular area, the terrorists hiding there opened fire which was retaliated, ensuing an encounter.
He said the operation was going on but refused to give more details about the holed up militants.
”I cannot say how many militants are holed up,” Khan said.
Meanwhile, people from the adjoining villages of Khudwani, Qoimoh and Redwani are trying to march towards the Arwani village where three terrorists are believed to be trapped.
Additional security forces and state police personnel rushed to the area to prevent stone pelting demonstrators from entering Arwani. (Agencies)
