Traders observe strike, stage protest

Excelsior Correspondent

Srinagar, June 3:  A complete shut down was observed by traders in southern Anantnag town of South Kashmir today to protest alleged highhandedness of security forces during yesterday’s stone-throwing clashes.
All the shops and commercial establishments in Anantnag town were closed since early morning. The traders said that security forces used excessive force against protesters and common people yesterday during post-Friday clashes.
They alleged that teargas shells fired by police caused fire in local commercial complexes and resulted in gutting of twenty godowns and shops. A protest demonstration against alleged highhandedness of security forces was staged by local shopkeepers and traders today and it concluded on peaceful note. Police meanwhile denied allegations of traders and termed them baseless.
Meanwhile, the situation in rest of the Kashmir remained peaceful and no incident of law and order was reported from anywhere.
