JAMMU, May 28: Hailing from village Gurabeldaran, Hiranagar, Kathua, Jammu boy Rahul Jarngal has created history by scaling Mount Everest (8848 m) at 7:45 am on May 27.
Jarngal was part of the 4-member ONGC employees team including Loveraj Singh, Yogender Garbiyal, N Jagoi and Rahul himself, who successfully summitted the Mount Everest under the guidance of Padma Shri Loveraj Singh Dharamshaktu, Assistant Commandant BSF, representing Indian Mountaineering Federation (IMF).
With this feat, ONGC has become one of the first Corporate in the world to successfully scale the Everest.
Yogender and Loveraj conquered the peak at 0610 hours, while Rahul and Jagoi summitted the same at 0745 hours.
With this successful mission, the son of the soil, Rahul Jarngal has become the first person from Hiranagar to conquer the Everest.
Working as AEE Instrumentation, ONGC Hazira Plant, Surat in Gujarat, Mr Jangral has the distinction of being exceptional in sports and academics.
After passing his 12th class from JNV Basohli, Rahul had joined NIT Jalandhar for B.Tech and is presently in the elite group of Engineers at ONGC.
Son of Banarsi Dass (retired Assistant Commissioner NVS) and Kamala Devi (Child Development Project Officer-ICDS Mahore), Rahul has the honour of being an athlete to almost a perfection, having participated in National Level Athletic Competitions in the events like long jump, triple jump, sprint and long distance races and won good number of medals at the national scene.
While talking to EXCELSIOR from Kathmandu, Jarngal described the summit as the dream come true.
He said that he was always waiting in the wings for this opportunity and the successful journey has brought ecstatic feeling to his mind.
“The Expedition was flagged off by Dharmendra Pradhan, MoS Incharge Petroleum & Natural Gas on March 27. The team had left Nepal in the first week of April and has since then summitted various peaks including Lobuche East (6119 mtrs) and climbed Camp-3 Mt Everest as part of the acclimatization exercise,” informed Rahul.
Rahul extended special thanks to Indian Mountaineering Federation for imparting training to ONGC employees under the mentorship of Col HS Chauhan, President IMP.
“It is not a proud moment for Rahul and his family only, but for the entire State of Jammu and Kashmir,” said Rahul’s father Banarsi Dass.
Rahul has one brother in Manav Jarngal, who has done B.Sc. from Government Degree College, Kathua, besides having one sister in Nidhi Jarngal, who is working as curator in the Department of Botany, University of Jammu.
It is pertinent to mention here that the achievements like scaling of Everest by Rahul, selection of Jagmohan in Indian team of Physically Challenged Cricketers, Sangeeta Bahl’s extraordinary endeavour to conquer Everest, have kept the State’s flag high at the national scene and helped Jammu and Kashmir to carve a space on the Country’s sports map.
