JAMMU, Oct 21: National Police Day popularly known as Police Commemoration Day Parade was observed in Jammu Zone in all 10 Districts where impressive functions were organized by concerned District Police with large scale participation of officers of PMF and prominent citizens alongwith District Police Officers/officials.
The main function was conducted at Gulshan Ground Jammu where Dilbag Singh, IGP Jammu Zone took the salute from the Commemoration Day Parade. All GOs of all units of Police based in Jammu were present apart from a large number of senior retired Police Officers and prominent citizens of Jammu.
While speaking on the occasion, Dilbag Singh, paid rich tributes to all those martyrs who laid down their lives for unity and integrity of our nation in different parts of the country. The names of the martyrs from all Police Organizations and PMF like BSF, CRPF, ITBP, CISF, SSB, NSG were read out.
He emphasized that the ever growing list of martyrs from the year 1959 when a small group of brave CRPF soldiers laid down their lives in Leh region facing the Chinese troops remind us to rededicate ourselves to the cause of our nation.
Earlier, rich tributes were paid by all the senior officers at Police Martyrs Memorial, Rail Head, Jammu. In the evening a large number of Police /Civil families lit candles and paid rich tributes to the martyrs.
A blood donation camp was also inaugurated after the Commemoration Day Parade which will continue for one week and 500 donors from police including its all senior officers and other volunteers will take part. In the ongoing donation camp Dilbag Singh, IGP Jammu, Zone Jammu, J.P.Singh , DIG Jammu -Kathua Range Johny Willim, DIG AP Jammu and Prabhat Singh, SSP Jammu were among the first donors.
Elaborate arrangements for the camp have been made at Police Auditorium Gulshan Ground Jammu with a team of medical officers and Incharge Blood Bank GMC Jammu will be camping for the entire week.
National Police Day (Commemoration Day Parade) was also held at District police Lines, Shah Balode, Samba in the memory of police personnel who laid their lives while guarding the sovereignty and territory of our country.
In the welcome address, Israr Khan, SSP Samba paying tributes to the Police Martyrs said that the history of J&K Police is a history of gallantry, sacrifice and innumerable achievements. It is because of the ongoing sacrifices of a number of Police Personnel that we continue to enjoy an atmosphere of peace, security and prosperity in the State. Thereafter, SSP Samba read out the names of all the martyrs.
In the function, a large number of dignitaries, members of civil/Army administration, all the police officers/jawans of District Samba besides 20 families of the Police Martyrs of District Samba who sacrificed their lives while performing duties since 1988, were invited to attend in the function.
After an impressive parade, martyrs were honoured with gun salutes by the officers / jawans of District Police Samba which culminated with the placement of wreaths at the roll of honour. Thereafter, in the memory of martyr police personnel, gift packs were distributed among the NOKs by Israr Khan and Mubarak Singh, DC Samba alongwith the dignitaries as a token of honour. Prominent among the dignitaries who attended the function were Yash Pal Kundal, MLA Samba, Mubarak Singh, District Durga Dass, MLA Hiranagar, Corporators and other respectable citizens of District Samba.
To pay homage to martyrs of Police/PMF/CRPF, an impressive parade was held in the premises of District Police Lines (DPL) Kathua. The parade comprises of contingents of District Police Kathua, Police Training School Kathua and CRPF 121 Battalion. SSP Kathua, Atul Kumar Goel took salute of parade and while speaking, said that a total of 566 Officers/Jawans laid down their lives. Principal PTS Kathua, Romesh Bhatt, CO CRPF 121 Battalion S Phought, ASP, ZN Manhas, Retd SP Sardar Khan and officers of Police/CRPF, family members of martyrs from Hiranagar, Billawar, Basohli, Bani, Malhar, Kathua attended the function.
Police Commemoration Day was observed at District Police Lines (DPL), Udhampur. On the occasion, Deputy Inspector General (DIG), Udhampur-Reasi range Jagjit Kumar alongwith SSP, Udhampur, Ashkoor Ahmed Wani, Deputy Commissioner, PK Pole, Suram Singh, DySP, Dar Udhampur, and other officers of the Police Department paid tributes to the martyrs. DIG while speaking, threw light on the role of these martyrs for the integrity of the nation. On the occasion, gifts were distributed among the NOKs of martyrs.
Martyrs Day was observed at District Police Lines, Poonch, during which SSP Poonch Shamsher Singh took the salute. While speaking, SSP said that 566 policemen sacrificed their lives for the sake of the country during this year and out of them 10 policemen laid down their lives in J&K. Brigadier Commander MK Magoo, DDC, AK Sahu, MLC Jahengir Mir, Commanding Officers, police officials and officers were also present.
