BHADERWAH, Apr 10: Sub Divisional Magistrate (SDM) Dr Owais Ahmed Rana has issued directions for strict monitoring of the content on social media and strict action against the rumor mongers.
Addressing a press conference, Dr Rana expressed serious concern about rumors and false news spread by some persons through social media particularly on WhatsApp wherein frequent unlawful and false updates are being made by responsible citizens and even by some Government employees, which have potential of threatening the law and order and security of State.
“People have been constantly updating on social media especially on WhatsApp groups and Facebook about false and fabricated incident since last two days to create differences between the communities. This tendency has been viewed very seriously and several WhatsApp news groups have been put on scanner to pin point such persons who are involved in this rumor mongering to create differences among people. Updating such fake news having serious repercussions are also a threat for law and order management”, SDM added.
He said that the persons sharing such information will be held responsible for consequences therein and legal action will be initiated. Police have been asked to keep a vigil on social media and initiate action against culprits, he informed.
“We are going to act strictly against habitual trouble markers especially some Government employees, who are reportedly involved in disturbing social fabric, peace and harmony of the area”, SDM informed.
SDPO Bhaderwah Brijesh Sharma while speaking said that a general advisory has also been issued for the public advising not to indulge in unlawful activities of spreading such false information which can invite action under IT Act.
Tehsildar Bhaderwah Masood Ahmed was also present during the press conference.
