SRINAGAR: The nomination papers of nine candidates were found valid, while two were rejected for Srinagar Parliamentary constituency going to polls on April 9, an official spokesman said.
He said on the day of scrutiny, Returning Officer (RO) of constituency Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone found nine nomination papers valid.
Among the candidates whose papers were found valid, included main opposition National Conference (NC) and Congress joint nominee Dr Farooq Abdullah, ruling Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate Nazir Ahmad Khan, Bikram Singh of J&K Liberal Democratic Party, Chetan Sharma of Akhil Bharat Hindu Mahasabha and Sajad Reshi of Rashtriya Samajwadi Party (Secular).
While the Independent candidates who have also filed nominations for the constituency and whose papers were found valid include Mirza Sajad Hussain Beigh, Ghulam Hassan Dar, Farooq Ahmad Dar and Mehraj Khurshid Malik.
The nominations of two independent candidates Reyaz Ahmad Batana and Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din Wani were found not in order, as per the provisions of Representation of the People Act, 1951 and were rejected. He said the last date for withdrawal of nominations has been fixed as March 24. (AGENCIES)
