This has reference to the writeup’Go Back to Vedas’ (DE, March12, 2017).Since times immemoral, India has been famous for its wisdom and thought and people from across the world have come to various parts of India in quest of knowledge.There is no doubt that Vedas, which are the oldest sacred books of Hinduism and which perhaps, mark the beginning of literature, are the repositories of sublime and eternal knowledge pertaining to the entire creation.They are the oldest scriptures of the world library.They are believed to be revelations of God to human beings through enlightened seers and sages.Vedas embrace all that is noble and sublime.The wisdom of Vedas is valid and relevant even more in the modern world when people, under the influence of materialism, often limit their social interaction to their friends, families, relations etc.and pay little attention to community welfare .Vedas guide us to community welfare and universal welfare .They are not merely the religious books of the Hindus;they contain sublime knowledge which leads a man from the animal state where he completely identifies with his body and suffers from hunger, thirst and desires, to the enlightened state where he realises that his human state is far higher than the animal state and he becomes a seeker of ultimate truth and eternal bliss.He prays to God to lead him from unreal to real, from darkness to light and from death to immortality.His wavering mind calms down and he experiences enlightenment and peace of mind, which lead him to self realization.Vedas tell us about the way of life, sacrifices, religious rites and have answers to such profound and unanswered questions as what is pain or pleasure? what is life and death? what is the ultimate truth and the like.They are believed to have been composed by enlightened and divinely inspired rishis and sages who laid stress on such ideas and actions which help in promoting social and spiritual development of the entire mankind and not of a particular region.So if we want to promote global peace, brotherhood, respect for women and crime free world, we have no option but to go back to Vedas and promote and follow our rich Vedic Philosphy.The key facts about Vedas ought to be taught to the children in their childhood by their parents to develop in them the qualities of tolerance, non violence, universal brotherhood as they grow up and thus, make this world a better place to live in.
