India can’t take PoK: Farooq

Excelsior Correspondent

JAMMU, Nov 27: National Conference president and former Chief Minister Dr Farooq Abd-ullah said today that he was not toeing Pakistan’s line on India taking back Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) but added it was fact that both India and Pakistan can’t annex the territory of each other now.
Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of a function on the death anniversary of veteran leader Girdhari Lal Dogra, Farooq asked: “can you take that part of Kashmir? When they (Pakistan) can’t take this part (of Kashmir), we can’t take that part (of Kashmir)”?
Replying to a question that there was unanimous resolution of Parliament that PoK is part of India, Farooq said: “how does it matter? How many resolutions are there in United Nations to hold plebiscite in Kashmir? Had India accepted (those resolutions)? How come this resolution matters”?
Farooq said he was not a Pakistani as being labeled by some organizations after his statement on PoK.
“I’m not a Pakistani. If those people, who think I’m Pakistani, they should go to hell. They are the agents of Pakistan, not me,” the NC president asserted.
“Why you blame Farooq Abdullah for that (not taking PoK for 70 years). It can’t be taken. For 70 years, you have not taken it. How are you going to take it now”?, he asked.
PTI adds from Delhi:-
The BJP today accused National Conference chief and former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah of speaking the language of Pakistan and insulting Parliament with his remarks in which he had made light of India’s claims over Pak-occupied-Kashmir.
Attacking him, its National Secretary Shrikant Sharma said Abdullah was frustrated after being out of power in the State and over the fact that it was returning to normalcy following months of unrest.
“He is speaking the language of Pakistan. He is speaking the language of terrorists like Hafiz Sayeed and Azhar Masood. He is unable to digest the return of the State to normalcy. In his greed for power, he is doing this vote bank politics. It only shows his mental bankruptcy,” he said.
Noting that Parliament has passed resolutions reiterating India’s claim over PoK, he said Abdullah had insulted Parliament even though he has been a Union Minister as well as a Chief Minister.
“PoK is a part of India and sooner than later we will have our sovereignty over it,” he said.
The BJP leader blamed Abdullah family and Gandhi family for the Kashmir issue, saying had they listened to the then Home Minister Sardar Patel, then the problem would not have festered so long.
Speaking at a public meeting on Thursday last, Abdullah had said PoK is not “your father’s property” as he insisted that neither India nor Pakistan can capture the State’s territory falling outside their control.
