Snowfall in upper reaches, night temps plummet

Srinagar, Nov 27: Higher reaches of Kashmir today received fresh snowfall leading to dip in the night temperatures by several degrees across the region while flight operations at Srinagar Airport resumed.
Fresh snowfall occurred in the higher reaches of Drass, Kargil and Zanskar areas in Ladakh region and in Gurez, Kongdori Gulmarg and other areas in upper reaches of Kashmir last night.
The night temperature across the Valley and Ladkah region went down by several degrees due to snowfall.
A Meteorological Department official said Srinagar recorded the minimum temperature of zero degree Celsius, down by over four notches from the previous night’s 4.3 degree Celsius.
Kupwara, in North Kashmir, registered the low of minus 1.8 degree Celsius a drop of over four degrees from the previous night’s 2.7 degree Celsius.
The minimum temperature in Kokernag town in South Kashmir settled at 2.9 degree Celsius as compared to the previous night’s 3.4 degree Celsius.
Qazigund recorded the low of 1.2 degree Celsius against yesterday’s 1.8 degrees.
Gulmarg in North Kashmir registered the low of minus 0.8 degree Celsius down from the previous night’s 1.6 degree Celsius.
Pahalgam in South Kashmir registered the minimum of minus 1.0 degree Celsius – a decrease of nearly five degrees from 3.8 degrees Celsius yesterday.
The night temperature in Leh town in Ladakh region went down by over a degree from minus 2.0 degrees Celsius to settle at minus 3.3 degrees Celsius. Leh was the coldest recorded place in the state. The temperature in the nearby Kargil town settled at the low of minus 1.8 degrees Celsius.
Srinagar recorded maximum day temperature of 15.1degree Celsius while normal day temperature for this time off the year is 14 degree Celsius, Qazigund recorded 15.9 degree Celsius, Pahalgam 13.7  degree Celsius, Kupwara 14.7 degree Celsius, Kokernag 14. 4 degree Celsius, Kargil 8.5 degree Celsius and Leh 9.6 degree Celsius.
The day temperatures in Jammu city was recorded at 27. 2 degree Celsius, while it was 22.6 degree Celsius in Katra town, 21. 9 degree Celsius in Batote, 23.2 degree Celsius in Banihal and 21.5 degree Celsius in Bhaderwah town.
The MeT Department has forecast dry weather for next 24 hours across Kashmir and Ladakh.
The air traffic that remained disrupted for last over 10 days resumed today with all 17 flights landing at Srinagar Airport after improvement in the visibility in the area.
Srinagar-Leh highway that was reopened for traffic today after it was closed following snowfall at Zojila Pass yesterday.
The traffic on the highway was restored today following an overnight closure. Initially the traffic from Kargil was allowed to move towards Srinagar and later the traffic was allowed towards Kargil.
