94 bags of rice smuggled from ICDS store seized

DODA, Nov 25: Contrary to the claims of Govt to provide affective and clean administration and plug the leakages of the ration and other material from Govt stores, the Police today seized 94  bags of  ration meant for the children of Anganwadi Centres,  pilferaged from the ICDS store at Gandoh tehsil headquarters in district Doda.
A senior police official while giving details revealed that  an information was received that a Tata 407 vehicles ( mini-truck), loaded with 94 bags of rice  from ICDS store Gandoh has left for Changa village as the consignment has been sold to a local trader of the area by the concerned ICDS officials.
Upon this, the police party laid a naka near Police Post  Changa Gwari  and intercepted Tata 407 vehicle No. JK06/9284. The driver of the vehicle tried to escape from the spot leaving behind the vehicle on seeing police but he was chased and nabbed by cops.  The police found the vehicle loaded with the rice bags.
The driver was identified as Bilal Ahmed, son of Manwar Din Sheikh , resident of Halore in tehsil Gandoh.  The police seized the vehicle along with ration and  arrested the accused. The driver  disclosed that he had loaded this ration from ICDS store Gandoh last night and today he was going to deliver the same to a private trader on the instructions of some staff members. The police said that names of some ICDS officials have been revealed by the arrested driver and they will also be arrested shortly. Most of them including store incharge of  ICDS have gone underground.
This ration procured from CAPD store Doda by the ICDS officers concerned  from Gandoh and Doda had kept for the supply to various Anganwadi  Centres  of Gandoh tehsil. Some insiders in the ICDS at Gandoh managed to pilferage the ration meant for little children of  the Anganwadi centres  and sell in the open market. Their attempt has been foiled by quick action by police. Locals have appreciated the prompt police  action.  A case FIR No. 126/2016 has been registered in this connection at Gandoh police Station. Further investigation was in progress.
Mission Director, ICDS J&K, Talat Parvez when contacted claimed that he was not aware of the matter. Parvez said that he would get details from the concerned District Project Officer (DPO). Later,  he  added that concerned DPO as denied any pilferage of ration from ICDS stores. But maintained that an inquiry has been initiated  in this regard.
