Close clinics run by unqualified practitioners: SHRC

SRINAGAR, Nov 22:  State Human Rights Commission (SHRC) today directed State Government to close down all clinics which are run by non-qualified medical practitioners in the State.
The directions came after the SHRC Chairperson, Justice (retired) Bilal Nazki, was hearing a case listed before the Commission vis-à-vis allegations that persons with no medical qualifications are practicing medicine and advertising through media that they are experts in various specialties.
The Commission issued a notice to Health Secretary, Director Health Jammu and Director Health Kashmir to apprise Commission about law governing these private institutions, mechanism in place to register such institutions and the mechanism in place to detect and punish unqualified medical practitioners.
“As an interim measure Divisional Commissioner Kashmir/Jammu, Director Health Kashmir/ Jammu are directed to close down all clinics which are run by non-qualified medical practitioners,” the SHRC Chairperson said in his order.
The detailed report along with compliance report will be filed before the Commission within six weeks, he further directed. The case that was being heard was a complaint titled Chander Shekhar C/o Abhinave Gupta R/o H.No 7 Block B Sector-B Gandhinagar Jammu regarding allegations against firm Bengali Ayurvedic Clinic.
