Goods worth lakhs damaged in fire at Vijaypur

SAMBA, Nov 20: Goods worth lakhs, including footwear and readymade were reduced to ashes as two shops in Main Bazaar of Vijaypur caught fire today. The fire tenders from Bari Brahman and adjoining areas were rushed to the spot. The fire was so severe that it almost took one hour for the fire officials to control the situation.
The two shops, including of Jagdish Singh, resident of Vijaypur and Sukhwinder Singh, resident of Randhawa colony,Vijaypur, having footwear and other readymade worth lakhs were completely damaged in the fire that broke out under mysterious circumstances.
According to eyewitnesses, fire broke at around 2 pm on the third floor of one shop and people immediately informed the police and fire brigade officials. Before fire tenders reach the spot, fire engulfed the third floor of another footwear shop and completely damaged the shop, they said.
Later, local people staged protest against Fire Services Department as they alleged that the fire officials took one hour to reach the spot.
The police spokesperson said the exact cause of the fire was yet to be ascertained, the circumstantial evidence suggested that the fire could have been caused due to short circuit in one of the shop.
