JAMMU, Nov 8: Speaker, J&K Legislative Assembly Kavinder Gupta today directed the J&K Housing Board to transfer the internal roads of Channi Himmat Housing Colony to PWD (R&B) to facilitate maintenance on regular basis.
Kavinder said this while chairing a high level meeting of officers of various allied departments today at Civil Secretariat. Commissioner Secretary Housing & Urban Development Hirdesh Kumar assured the Speaker that all necessary measures would be initiated in this regard at the earliest.
Expressing concern over open defecation by the migrant labourers living amid established housing colonies, the Speaker directed the JMC and Housing Board to work together to weed out this menace from the society. In this regard, JMC was directed to construct community toilets for this populace besides this the Housing Board was asked to ensure that every private owner who rent-out their land to migrant population should provide them basic amenities like water, legal electric connections and proper toilets facilities.
Kavinder asked JMC and Housing Board to strictly enforce these directions to achieve the target of ODF (open defecation free) for the State.
Speaker, having received multiple complaints from the public regarding dairy farms operational in the housing colonies, directed the concerned department to shift them to the outskirts as these farms creating sanitation problems.
Conveying seriousness of the Government on encroachments, the Speaker asked JMC to evict encroachers from the lands adjoining nallahs especially in Channi Himmat, Gangyal and other areas and take plantation drives on these stretches under AMRUT.
Further decisions were taken to transfer the parks over the area of 4 kanal to floriculture for maintenance in Channi Himmat area.
The issues including sanitation, regular maintenance of lanes and drains by JMC, PWD (R&B), repair and new installation of street lights in Sainik Colony, Channi Himmat, Nai Basti , Shastri Nagar, Trikuta Nagar area, were also discussed during the meeting.
Commissioner Secretary PWD (R&B) Rohit Kansal, Commissioner Secretary Housing & Urban Development Hirdesh Kumar, Director Finance (Planning) Kuldeep Singh Jamwal, Director Floriculture Sunil Misri, Commissioner JMC Manmohan Singh, Additional Secretary Floriculture and other officials from allied departments were present on the occasion.
