JAMMU, Nov 2: Senior BJP leader and former MLA Bishnah Ashwani Sharma while expressing grave concern over the unprovoked firing from across the border killing civilians as well as cattle has demanded that the people hit in border shelling be provided adequate compensation.
Mr Sharma who visited various border villages in Bishnah tehsil today said that the people are in great distress due to the Pak shelling targeting the civilian population in villages and towns by Pakistan.
He demanded that the people be paid immediate ex-gratia relief and loss of crops be assessed as standing crops which were now ready for harvesting have been damaged.
Mr Sharma also demanded that the border people be shifted to safer places to save further loss of life and they be given proper protection. He also demanded that the government should open free langers for the people in make shift camps.
He appealed the social organizations and NGOs to come to the help of border people at this juncture in providing relief to them in makeshift camps.
