Srinagar, Nov 2: In a major pre-dawn blaze incident, guest house of State Bank of India’s Residency Road branch, also called main branch, was gutted here at Lal Chowk area of city centre.
Officials said the fire erupted inside the guest house at around 3:00 am and engulfed the entire structure which is used for residential purpose by top officers of the SBI. The security forces stationed inside the bank noticed the fire and informed Fire and Emergency Services (F&ES).
The F&ES fire tenders immediately rushed towards the bank and started dousing fire. After nearly three hours, the fire was brought fully under control and the adjoining buildings were saved. The officials said that the ceiling and other property of the first floor of residential quarter besides three security force barracks were damaged in the incident.
Police said the cause of fire is being ascertained and an investigation has been started. However, an official claimed that it appears that the blaze occurred as a result of short circuit.
