NEW DELHI: Expressing satisfaction over telecom operators’ efforts in improving the issues of call drop, Minister of State for Communication and Telecom Manoj Sinha today urged them to quickly roll out the spectrum won in the auction for zero case of call drop.
Addressing the media after the review meeting with the telecom operators, Mr Sinha said, “We are satisfied with the progress made by operators on call drop Issue.
Today we have reviewed the status. I have also requested telcos to quickly roll out spectrum won by telcos in the auction.”
The telecom service providers were assigned to execute the 100-day plan to tackle this menace. The minister said that the situations have improved from earlier.
In June, service providers have come out with a 100-day comprehensive plan to invest at least Rs 12,000 crore and put 60,000 new mobile towers in areas where network coverage remains poor in the country.
“So far the installations of BTS towers have crossed 60,000 marks. Idea has erected the maximum number of towers of 25,382, while Airtel and Vodafone installed 22,000 and 13,870 towers. The numbers of Tata, Aircel and BSNL are low,” said the minister. He also stated that the Reliance Jio has alone established 45,000 towers.
The service providers should launch multimedia campaigns about Electromagnetic Field (EMF) radiation.
On spectrum, he said 965 MHz of spectrum will be provided to successful bidders before November 19, 2016.
The government is also mulling on to launch an online platform for call drop, where consumers can register their grievances regarding this menace. (AGENCIES)
