MUMBAI: The fate of opener Gautam Gambhir and speedster Ishant Sharma lies with the Board of Control for Cricket in India’s (BCCI) national selection committee when it meets here tomorrow for the selection of the team for the England Test series.
Gambhir, who scored a decent half century in the final Test at Indore against New Zealand Test series recently and also put up a 147 run in last Ranji Trophy against Odisha.
The lanky pacer Ishant Sharma who was selected for the Kanpur Test against the Black caps missed the Test after suffering from chikungunya.
With opener Lokesh Rahul is suffering from a hamstring strain while seamer Bhuvneshwar Kumar is dealing with an ankle injury, Gambhir and Ishant will be the likely options when the M S K Prasad-led selection panel picks the side.
However, no other major changes are expected in the Virat Kohli-led side, which whitewashed the Kiwis 3-0.
The opening match of the five Test series will take place at at Rajkot, from November 9 to 13.
The other Tests will be held in Vishakapatnam (November 17 to 21), Mohali (November 26 to 30), Mumbai (December 8 to 12) and Chennai (December 16 to 20).
The five-match series will not be an easy task for the no one ranked home side, as England has a good record against the hosts capturing win in the last three Test series, two in England and one in India.
