JAMMU, Oct 31:  Rich tributes were paid to the former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 32nd death anniversary by Congress party in various functions held across the State.
The main function in this connection was held at Indira Chowk near General Bus Stand, Jammu  where PCC president Ghulam Ahmed Mir was the chief guest.
President PCC and former Minister  G A Mir along with senior functionaries of PCC, DCC and other senior leaders of the party including frontal organizations garlanded the statue of  Indira Gandhi and offered floral tributes to her on the occasion.
Rich tributes were also paid to Sardar Patel, one of the greatest stalwart of the country, on his birth anniversary today and his services in the freedom struggle and in the strengthening and consolidation of the country after independence were recalled.
PCC chief while paying floral tributes to  Indira Gandhi,  remembered her supreme sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the nation. He said that Late Gandhi created history by providing an able and dynamic leadership to the country and was acknowledged a strong and visionary leader in the world. She will always be remembered as a leader of masses with strong commitment to the upliftment of poor and down trodden and devotion  to the cause of nation and did not succumb against any pressures at the cost of the unity and integrity of the nation.
Mir said that  Indira Gandhi had a special affection towards Jammu and Kashmir like her father Pt Jawahar Lal Nehru and it was the reason that people of this State has  special respect in her leadership and that of the Gandhi-Nehru family and their leadership and principles. It is the respect and trust in the leadership which binds the people of this great and vast country having many diversities.
Senior vice president Sham Lal Sharma while paying rich tributes to Late Gandhi  recalled her supreme sacrifice for the unity and integrity of the country and said that she enhanced the image of India in the community of nations by her farsighted stewardship and India emerged as a strong nation under her leadership. He referred to the attempts to distort history by certain forces, who are trying to divert the attention of countrymen from the great contribution of Nehru- Gandhi leadership and the role of Congress party and its leadership from time to time.
Former Ministers  Mula Ram and  Raman Bhalla also addressed on the  occasion and recalled the contributions of Late Gandhi. They said Indo-Soviet friendship  treaty was a tribute to her contribution in international affairs which is commendable. Her vision paid us handsome dividends in the 1971 war and in the cold war era. All this made, Indira Gandhi a tallest and courageous leader for all times to come.
Shri Aijaz Ahmed Khan-Deputy CLP leader, Kanta Bhan, Vikram Malhotra and Anil Chopra highlighted the achievements of Smt. Indira Gandhi and described her as an iron lady, an able administrator and great visionary leader. They said that Indira Ji was symbol of women empowerment in the country and always framed policies and programmes aimed at  the upliftment of poor and downtrodden. She launched various schemes for the welfare and development of poor population of the country including her twenty point campaign for them.
Prominent those who paid floral tributes include  Senior Vice President PCC  former Minister GM Saroori,  PCC vice president Kanta Bhan, Dy-CLP Leader Aiyaz Ahmed Khan, chief spokesperson  Ravider Sharma, Mohd Amin Bhat-MLA, Naresh Gupta-MLC,   Vikram Malhotra,  Shabir Ahmed Khan, Manjit Singh, Ch Shah Mohd,  Manmohan Singh, Namrata Sharma, Faqir Nath,  Rajnish Sharma, Ex-MLAs Mohd Sharief Niaz, Balbir Singh, Indu Pawar (president Mahila Congress), GL Chalotra, Shiv Dev Sigh, Prof Gharu Ram, PYC president Pranav Shagotra,  YV Sharma, MK Bhardwaj, KK Pangotra, Kuldeep Raj Verma, S. Gurdarshan Singh, Vinod Mishra, Krishan Lal Gupta, Shashi Sharma, Neeraj Gupta, Ashwani Puri, Thomas Khokher, Surinder Gupta, Manjit Singh Jatt and others.
In Srinagar, Pradesh Congress Committee held a meeting of senior office bearers and party leaders to pay glowing tributes to Late Indira Gandhi on her death anniversary and recalled the services rendered by her to the Nation, at Congress headquarters here.
The meeting was presided over by senior leader and District president Abdul Gani Khan. Those who addressed and paid rich tributes to former Prime Minister included PCC spokesperson Farooq Andrabi, Imtiyaz Ahmad Khan, Farhat Qureshi, Mushtaq Ahmad Bazaz, Dr. Syed Ahmad, Mir Rovais, Ab. Qayoom, Ab. Ahad Tara, Gulam Nabi Mir, Block Presidents, Senior Party workers and others.
In Kathua, a function in this connection was held under the leadership of Distt president Subhash Gupta Ex-MLC. Mr Gupta and all the other party members present on the occasion paid floral tributes to Late Gandhi. Besides Subhash Gupta, Naresh Sharma, Y K Bali, Aradhana Andotra, Narinder Khajuria, Pankaj Sharma  and Dr Sharat also spoke on the occasion.
Block Congress Committee Sunderbani led by Master Dwarka Nath Sharma (vice president) also paid floral tributes to Late Gandhi. Senior members Mohan Lal, Patel Kumar, Rattan Lal and Yog Raj Sharma recalled the contributions of Late Gandhi.
Pradesh Congress Seva Dal president B S Sambyal while paying tributes to Late Indira Gandhi demanded peace on the borders. He said that due to tension along  the borders the people of Samba, Kathua, Jammu belt area suffering a lot.
