JAMMU, Oct 5: To get information about the ground situation, senior leader of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Member of the Legislative Council (MLC) Vikramaditya Singh today visited the border areas of Abdullia, Zodda Camp, Mutthi Camp, Domana, Mishriwala and Khour.
Vikramaditya Singh visited the schools that are being used as temporary shelter for people of border areas that have been affected by the recent shelling. He had a close interaction with the public and listened to their long standing grievances.
Singh said that the most common demand of the public was that they should be allotted 5 marla land each where they can safely retreat to when border shelling takes place. This has been a long standing demand and the Government has acted on it in certain areas like
Khour. However, in rest of the affected areas, no such allotment has been made.
Singh, while highlighting miseries of the border inhabitants, said that the most disturbed and affected representation was made by villagers of Pargwal who get trapped between the border on one side and the river on the other side. They demanded that the bridge already sanctioned linking Pargwal to Jourian should be completed at the earliest possible, so that the exit route during shelling becomes available to the villagers. No work is in progress currently on this bridge.
Vikramaditya Singh assured the people that he would bring all the demands and difficulties being faced by the people of the border areas to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and the State administration for early action.
He was accompanied by Ved Mahajan, Satpal Singh Charak, Vijaya Dogra, Rajinder Manhas, KK Sharma, E Peter, Sardar Sukhviner, Vijay Chib, Balbir Singh and others.
