Turmoil : ” A state of great disturbance, confusion or uncertainty.” Beginning with the word sounds a bit awkward, but this is what is going on in Kashmir Now-a-days. Kashmir said to be heaven on earth is bringing literal meanings of this word to reality. World is not unaware of the situation going on in the beautiful part of our country. Not even I am going to tell you any different story, but just felt like sharing my part of experience in the heaven which was set ablaze in no time.
Myself a banker by profession is a said to be Kashmiri, because ancestors belong to Kashmir. Born and brought up out of Kashmir, but having strings attached to it gives you somehow a feeling of being a part of the place famous in the whole world, not only for its scenic beauty anymore but for its terror also.
Anyways coming back to my words, I took a break from my work to enjoy my native place and its surroundings. It was Eid festival and a weekend accompanying it, which brought some holidays for me. Having an ancestral home there, filled our needs of stay. We took eatables and food for the prescribed duration and enjoyed cooking with stay around the cool winds and endearing mountains. A feeling like camping was on its peak.
Kashmir was tranquil, beautiful and peaceful. It was an alluring evening as birds chirp, saying good bye to the sun. But in no time, calm turned fierce, noises hitting the ears leading to the inception of the blacking of charm. It was matter of hours, which depicted the pros and cons of the place. Meanwhile we were not at all aware of the things which were happening. Hoping the things to get domiciled the next morning.
‘Next morning’, Did someone said next morning? Next Morning showed a new valley, a valley which was no more a cool place. Anger, hatred, detestation grabbed it from its every part. We somehow decided to flee but had something worse to witness that our car was short of petrol which we were expecting to refill next morning. Still my words are not enough to thank my local mates over there who helped us to get petrol from a local shopkeeper, which was actually something equal to walk on thrones in a situation where moving out was moving around vacuumed street surrounded by anger and hatred of people.
Though we were fueled up, minds were set to run, but situations, Ah! Moving out during light was like calling death. Situations were jolting our will. Food finished, eatables consumed, money left in pocket was merely piece of paper of no use there. At last, inquired thought and left the place at 12 in the midnight was a risky decision actually. We found roads blocked, cars ablaze, shops broken and every piece of thing which can astound any normal human.
Somehow managed to escape which was never our will. I can conclude that having a home there somewhere filled our need of staying there as long as we could. But those who were on vocations staying in hotels, those who were ill, those who were short of food must be the ones who must have tried to put water on fire. A place which was known for its cool breeze is now sending black smoke of burning emotions in the sky. A place known as Heaven on earth is becoming hell now. Innocent people being the worst victim of the present outrage. Some educated but unemployed youth being tamed towards the wrong path of hatred.
Me and all those Kashmiries whether living in or outside Kashmir are not able to digest this unrest in the valley. May Almighty bring sense and knowledge to all those who have chosen the wrong way and I wish valley returns to its beauty again.
Some escaped, some still trying, while some are merely witnessing ‘White snowy land turning into the ‘Bonfires’ of the Rich! God Bless Kashmir.
