JAMMU, Sept 6: One day joint seminar on ‘GST: Impact Assessment and Reforms’, was organized by the Department of Commerce (SAP: DRS III), University of Jammu in collaboration with The Board of Studies branch of ICAI, here today.
Anoo Malhotra, Additional Commissioner, Commercial Taxes (Adm.) Jammu, was chief guest on the occasion while CA Atul Gupta, Central Council member ICAI; Chairman of Committee on Information Technology and former Chairman of Indirect Tax Committee of the ICAI, acted as guest of honour.
In her address, Ms Malhotra appreciated the effort of organizers for choosing the vibrant, emerging and contemporary theme and stated GST as perfect tax over all the existing taxes that will bring transparency in the single tax system. “Indeed, GST is the basis for mitigating the tax terrorism and bringing uniformity in the tax rates through one nation, one market and one tax” she added.
CA Atul Gupta, in his key note address, deliberated extensively on the fundamentals of GST, Comparative analysis of GST with other Indirect taxes, CGST, SGST, IGST, Taxable Supply, Cascading effect and implementation as well as implications of GST. He informed that GST is being followed by 163 countries and in India it is the biggest tax reform after independence as it will change the way of doing business.
The second technical session was conducted by CA Alok Krishan, author and expert on GST, who dwelled on GST valuation and Reforms and highlighted the challenges to be faced for the implementations of GST in the country.
Earlier, the welcome address was delivered by Prof Neetu Andotra, HoD Commerce and SAP Coordinator while Prof Desh Bandhu Gupta acted as session Chairperson. CA Ashwani Kumar Khajuria, Chairman J&K Branch of NIRC, highlighted the objectives of the seminar while CA Ajay Kumar Gupta, Secretary J&K Branch of NIRC of ICAI, delivered vote of thanks. The event was attended by Chartered Accountant, faculty members, research scholars and students.
