JAMMU, Sept 4: The activists of Pradesh Youth Congress held strong protest against the BJP led NDA Government at the Centre for its failure to control price rise and uncontrolled hike in the prices of petroleum products here today.
Led by State president of Youth Congress Pranav Shagotra the PYC activists held demonstration at Raipur- Domana to expose the Centre for pursuing anti-poor policies.
Activists of Youth Congress shouted slogans against BJP Government for hardship being faced by the common man due to unprecedented hike in the prices of essential commodities and failure of the Government to check uncontrolled hike in the prices.
Addressing party workers, Mr Shagotra said that the BJP, which came to power at the Centre by raising hue and cry about price rise and high rate of inflation promising “Achhe Din”, had completely failed to control the prices of essential commodities, including vegetables and pulses, and the general public is facing hardships in sustaining their livelihood.
PYC chief said, “The prices of pulses have skyrocketed and are being sold at Rs 150 per kg while the prices of the same pulses were Rs 60 to 70 per kg in 2014. The present Union Government has made ration out of the reach of the common man”, he said adding that the BJP had promised to bring down inflation in the country but the prices of pulses increased 100 %.
“Further, the prices of petroleum products have decreased by 60 to 70 per cent in the international market but instead of passing on this benefit to the general public, the Central Government has instead hiked excise duty on crude oil”, he said and added that unprecedented hike in the prices of petrol and diesel last week was another burden on common masses.
Satish Sharma, general secretary Pradesh Youth Congress said that BJP Govt has miserably failed to check inflation in the country and the prices of almost everything had doubled since the party came to power. He said that common people are facing hardships due to it. He pointed out that over-whelming response to the September 2 strike call given by various trade unions against economic policies of the NDA Government is an indication that BJP regime has been exposed. Similar protests were held at Hiranagar & Gandhi Nagar.
Hoshiar Singh Chib, Ravi Kant, Balbir Singh, Chetan Wanchoo, Charanjeet Singh, Ricky Dalotra, Sumit Sharma and Ramneek Singh also accompanied.
