Leh sulks, warns against neglect by Delegation

LEH, Sept 3: Several organizations of Leh today took strong exception to neglect of Ladakh region by the All Party Delegation (APD) headed by Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh, which is visiting Jammu and Kashmir on September 4 and 5.
In a memorandum submitted to the Union Home Minister through the civil administration of Leh, the organizations said it was sad and disheartening to realize that the APD will visit only Srinagar and Jammu and skip Ladakh, which is major stakeholder and important and strategically located part of the State.
“Any major decision on Jammu and Kashmir can’t be taken without consulting or involving the people of Ladakh,” they said and called upon the APD to scheduled a visit to Ladakh region and listen to aspirations and problems of the people of this region, which, they said, are totally different from the people of Kashmir.
Warning serious repercussions of ignoring Ladakh, the organizations said there would be protest but hoped that the Government of India would avoid such a situation and schedule a visit to Ladakh too.
Signatories to the memorandum included PT Kunzang, vice president Leh Buddhist Association (LBA), Rinchen Namgyal, president LBA Youth, Sheikh Saif-ud-Din, president, Anjuman Moin Islam, Ashraf Ali Barcha, president Anjuman Imamiya and David Sonam, president Christian Association.
