LEH, Aug 29: Taking pledge to save Ladakhi culture and tradition, Ladakh Student Eco-Cultural Saver (LSECS) today organized awareness rally from Chowkhang Vihara to Indoor Stadium.
The rally was flag off by Padma Shree Morup Namgyal and LTO Director Mipham Otsal. With the message “Save our rich culture and tradition and its fading away” the students from various schools attired in traditional dress participated in the rally.
Appreciating the students’ endeavor, Padma Shree Morup Namgyal said that Ladakhi dress “Kos” has great significance and described the same as sumbol of simplicity, confidence, discipline, honesty, dedication and self-esteem.
Expressing concern over people showing reluctant attitude in preserving culture and tradition, Morup said that Hill Development Council status was purposely granted to safeguard the culture and tradition of Ladakh region but unfortunately people are giving more impetus over developing the infrastructure thus are diverting from the actual goal of saving and promoting the culture ethos.
LAHDC Executive Councillor (EC) for Works Dorjay Mutup assured his best support to such initiatives and urged the students to continue their moment in future to spread the awareness.
Emphasizing the need to learn moral education along with modern education to become a successful and responsible citizen, Mutup said that education means the complete transformation into a good human being.
Stressing the need for preserving the rich culture and tradition through such initiatives, Ladakh Theatre Organization (LTO) Director Mipham Otsal urged the students to be the ambassador to preserve and promote the unique culture and tradition starting from home by educating their parents.
“A large number of tourists come to Ladakh just to see our rich culture and tradition which must be preserved at any cost otherwise who will visit Ladakh”, he asked.
