NC lauds Omar’s initiatives for restoration of peace in Kashmir, seeking political roadmap to problems

JAMMU, Aug 17: Jammu Provincial Wing of National Conference today lauded the tireless efforts being made by Working President Omar Abdullah towards restoration of peace and normalcy in the Kashmir valley, which is reeling under continued curfew for the past 40 days and facing gravest ever situation with young children dying and thousands suffering disabilities.
“Provincial Unit of the National Conference vehemently and unequivocally endorses the tireless efforts being made by the Working President towards restoration of peace and expresses serious concern over excessive use of force, especially the lethal weapons young people”, a resolution adopted at a six and half hour long meeting held at Sher-e-Kashmir Bhavan under the chairmanship of Provincial President Devender Singh Rana.
The meeting, convened to discuss the obtaining scenario in the Kashmir valley, was attended by the district presidents and secretaries of the parent body and Youth National Conference of the Jammu region besides Provincial Vice Presidents and other office bearers. Senior leaders, former ministers Ajay Kumar Sadhotra, Surjeet Singh Slathia, Abdul Gani Malik, Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo and Mushtaq Ahmed Shah were among those, who were present in the meeting and spoke on the overall security situation in the Valley and parts of Jammu region.
The meeting adopted the resolutions, read out by Rana, with one voice and expressed grief and anguish over loss of life. A two minute silence was observed as a mark of respect to the departed souls and the participants prayed for speedy recovery of the injured.
In another resolution, the Provincial Committee resolved to urge the Centre, through the party high command, to provide a political roadmap, with thrust on the internal external dimensions of the issues involved. This, the resolution added, is imperative to address the long pending issues amicably in a cordial atmosphere.
Dismayed over the rigid approach being adopted by the BJP led NDA Government at the Centre in understanding the gravest ever problem in the Valley, the Provincial Committee in yet another resolution, urged the Government of India to open up channels of dialogue with all shades of opinion and all the stake holders across the State to end the present morass.
The Provincial Unit made a passionate appeal to the people of Jammu and Kashmir to maintain their time tested unity and amity by preserving glorious spirit of secularism nurtured over decades. National Conference hoped that the people will foil the machinations of the political entities with vested interest, who were hell bent to trample this glorious tradition of the state.
The participants gave their assessment on the situation and stressed the need for a viable roadmap to steer out the state from the current volatile situation.
