JAMMU, Aug 16: In a good Samaritan act, a Jawan of Border Security Force (BSF), who was on duty, jumped into a canal and saved the life of his officer’s wife at Paloura area on the city outskirts here.
“A BSF Jawan namely Constable Amrender Pandey of 29 Bn BSF, who was on duty at Iron Gate of BSF Camp Paloura, last evening saw a lady jumping into swelled Ranbir Canal opposite to the Campus,” official spokesman here today said.
He said that considering human life in danger, Pandey jumped into the canal without caring for his life and saved the lady. “The lady was in unconscious state and with the help of other guards she was evacuated to the Government Medical College and Hospital,” he added.
The spokesman said that later it was known that the victim was a wife of a BSF personnel namely ASI Surjeet Singh, posted elsewhere.
However, on the instructions of IG BSF, Jammu Frontier, BSF Commandant Medical visited the hospital. The lady is out of danger and is stable, the spokesman added.
