JAMMU : A small batch comprising 596 pilgrims today left for twin base camps of Amarnath cave shrine in south Kashmir Himalayas amidst tight security.
A total of 596 pilgrims, including 411 men, 115 women and 70 sadhus, left in a cavalcade of 27 vehicles from Bhagwati Nagar base camp in Jammu for Pahalgam and Baltal base camps in Kashmir at 12.30 PM, a police officer said.
Yesterday, 2,830 devotees paid obeisance at the holy cave.
2,05,330 pilgrims from various parts of the country have paid obeisance at the cave shrine till date.
The Yatra which started on July 2 this year, entered the 26th day today. It was suspended thrice in wake of unrest in the Valley following the encounter of Hizbul Mujahideen Commander Burhan Wani on July 8 by security forces. (AGENCIES)
