14 business establishments booked, Rs 23,000 fine imposed

JAMMU, July 2:  On occasion of Ramzan and start of Amarnath yatra, a team of Legal Metrology department under the supervision of Deputy Controller Consumer Protection V S Sambyal  conducted checking in the areas of Shiva ji Chowk, Gandhi Nagar, Gangyal, Channi, Narwal and adjoining areas today.
During inspection fourteen business establishments were detected violating the provisions of J&K Weights and Measures (Enf.) Act, 1997.
All the defaulting business establishments were booked under relevant provisions of law by Inspector LM Jammu (L) Mohsin Khateeb and to this effect seizure memos were issued.
As the defaulting traders accepted their guilt, their challans were compounded on spot for Rs 23,000/- by Dy Controller.
The department had issued show cause to the management of Grand Bakery Gandhi Nagar for sale of different packs of eatables without proper labelling.
