Protest against police in Mandi, people block road

POONCH, June 30: The people from  majority community of Mandi town today held protest against police and blocked road for about two hours.
They were demanding recovery of a girl allegedly kidnapped by  a youth from minority community. The family members and relatives of the girl, supported by the locals of the area came out on the road at Mandi town at around 9 am and started protest. They were  shouting slogans against District Police Poonch and SHO Mandi for allegedly  shielding the accused persons allegedly involved in the kidnapping of  the young girl.
They alleged that about 15 days back, the family  members of the girl lodged report with Mandi police but the police has failed to recover the girl and arrest  the accused. While a senior police officer claimed that they have solemnized marriage in the court   in Punjab being major, the police did not bother to send a team to recover the girl from Punjab.  They raised loud slogans against SSP and other officers.
Later, DySP Headquarters Poonch reached the protest dharna site and pacified the agitating  people. He assured that   the girl will be recovered shortly and the accused will be punished under law. Then the people lifted dharna and cleared the road at around 11.30 am. A large number of vehicles remained stranded on the road.
