KATHUA, June 30: The irate residents in various areas of Kathua district held demonstrations and blocked National Highway and Kathua Kali Bari road for hours together in protest against power and water scarcity.
Miffed over the indifferent attitude of the Public Health Engineering Department (PHE), the residents of Jatwal, Patyari Katlan and other adjoining villages held a protest demonstration and blocked Jammu -Pathankot National Highway for two hours this morning in protest against the water scarcity in the area.
The traffic on the busy NH remained paralyzed for complete two hours and there was a huge traffic jam at National Highway and commuters were put to many hardships by waiting for a long time in traffic jam in this hot and humid Summer.
The protesters raising slogans against the PHE Department demanded immediate restoration of water supply and a guarantee from the Department that there is no such problem in future.
The protesters said that they are not getting even a drop of water for last one month and PHE Department has totally failed to provide water supply in the villages.
However the road blockade was later lifted following the intervention of Sub District Magistrate Ghagwal, Narayan Dutt Sharma and other senior PHE Department engineers who assured that immediate steps will be taken to solve the problem.
Another protest was held by the irate residents of Ward Number 12 at three places against the power failure in the area. First the protest was held in front of PDD Office Kathua, which was followed by blocking of Kathua -Kalibari road and later the protesters assembled in Main Chowk Kathua and staged a massive demonstration there against the power failure.
