SRINAGAR, June 24: Minister for R&B A R Veeri said that there are 76 water supply schemes in Mendhar constituency, out of which 46 are complete and 30 are ongoing, under different heads.
The Minister was replying to a Calling Attention Notice of Javed Ahmed Rana which was moved by Mubarak Gul on his behalf in the House.
The Minister said that presently there are 74 pumping stations in operation in Mendhar constituency, out of which 3 pumping stations WSS Harni Stage-I, WSS Chungan and Stage Ist of WSS Terian Mankote (Berja) are non functional due to breakdown of pumping machinery. He said that two of these stations will be made functional immediately and the third one Berja of WSS Terrian Mankote, which has got damaged, recently, will be rectified shortly.
The Minister further said that it is a fact that in summer discharge in water sources gets depleted in many areas, especially on higher contours, which are facing problem on account of inadequate water supply. He said moreover, erratic power supply is also a causative factor for inadequate pumping of water to higher altitudes and it also damages the pumping machinery.
The Minister said that as an interim relief, water is being provided through deployment of tankers to the affected areas.
