JAMMU, June 20: Rajya Sabha MP and former Sadar-e-Riyasat, Dr Karan Singh today urged the State Government to set up a world class museum inside renovated portion of the Mubarak Mandi Heritage Complex (MMHC) in Jammu even as he expressed his disappointment over slow pace of renovation work.
During his visit to the heritage complex, Dr Singh told reporters, “I have seen restoration work is going on at ground zero but I was personally disappointed with the pace of restoration work”.
He said even after renovating a portion of the complex we have not been able to utilize it for last so many years. Referring to the Army headquarters and Foreign Affairs Department blocks, Dr Singh said the same portion should be utilized to exhibit artifacts depicting rich cultural heritage of Dogra culture.
He said the renovated portion should be used to avoid further decay and to save it. “I am ready to write a letter to the Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti requesting her to make use of the renovated portion of the Army headquarters/ Foreign Department to create world class museum, “he said.
“If we are able to set up a world class museum, we can attract more and more tourists to this place and rest of the restoration work can also pick pace to restore the pristine glory of the heritage structure,” Dr Singh added.
