Clashes in Batamaloo

Srinagar, June 15: Clashes erupted between mourners and security forces at Batamaloo area of city after the burial of Tanveer Sultan who was killed in Kud shootout early this week.
Witnesses said police handed over the body of the militant, Tanveer Sultan, to his family members this morning and was subsequently taken to his home here in Bemina, which is tense for last two days.
Hundreds of people who had already gathered at Ibrahim Colony in Bemina offered the funeral of the militant amid massive sloganeering.
Later, the body of the slain militant was taken in a large procession towards Batamaloo graveyard for burial. Soon after the militant was laid to rest, hundreds of youths clashed with security forces in multiple localities of Batamaloo. Police responded by firing dozens of teargas shells.
The clashes continued till late hours while the trade and transport activities remained suspended in Batamaloo as well as Bemina.
