SRINAGAR, June 13: Speaker of Legislative Assembly, Kavinder Gupta today directed the Government to finalize comprehensive Sports Policy at the earliest.
While asking the Government to immediately implement the directions passed earlier on various issues, the Speaker said, “I have come to know that draft of the Sports Policy was prepared but thereafter no step was initiated to take it to the logical conclusion”, adding “the Government is directed to finalize the Sports Policy and even share the same with the Legislators by placing it in this House”.
He further said, “such a policy is imperative to boost the sports activities in the State”, adding “we must have a policy on the pattern of Punjab and Haryana so that our youth too make a mark in the national and international sports events”.
It is pertinent to mention here that EXCELSIOR in today’s edition exclusively highlighted the fate of draft Sports Policy which was placed in public domain for suggestions and objections in the month of February this year.
Meanwhile, Speaker directed Irrigation and Flood Control Department to ensure un-interrupted irrigation facilities to farmers during current Kharief season.
The direction was passed on the issue raised by Mohammad Khalil Bandh during the proceedings of the House. The Speaker directed for immediate restoration of defunct lift irrigation schemes besides pump stations so that farming community doesn’t face any inconvenience while irrigating their fields.
The Speaker also directed the concerned departments to take up the matter of poor BSNL services in Poonch with Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited for immediate improvement.
