JAMMU, May 30: Additional Sessions Judge Jammu Rajesh Sekri today awarded life-imprisonment and fine of Rs one lakh to Vinod Kumar, a resident of Samba, who was facing trial in murder case.
After hearing Special PP Ajay Gupta appearing for the State whereas Advocate KS Chib appearing for the accused, court observed, “the crime committed by him is not of an uncommon nature and does not fall in the category of ‘rarest of the rare cases’, where collective conscious of the community is shocked to such an extent that it may expect award of death sentence to the convict”.
“There is no legal justification for awarding the extreme penalty of death sentence to the accused”, the court said while awarding life-imprisonment.
