SRINAGAR, May 30: State Government today said the revenue of Jammu Municipal Corporation has reduced by over Rs 10 lakh in previous financial year.
In a written reply to MLC Ramesh Arora in Upper House, the Deputy Chief Minister, who also holds portfolio of Housing and Urban Development Department, said position of revenue generated in JMC with effect from 01.01.2015 to 31.01.2015 is Rs. 1114.97 lakh but he also admitted that the revenue of the JMC has reduced by Rs. 10.23 lakh in 2015-16 as compared to financial year 2014-15.
The reasons cited by the Deputy Chief Minister for the reduction in revenue are ‘work under Food Safety and Standards Act, which was earlier being looked after by Health Section of JMC and was good source of revenue on account of licence fee, copying fee etc but has now been transferred to Drug and Food Organisation of Health Department’. “This has resulted in decline in the revenue generation by JMC,” he said.
The Deputy Chief Minister said that 1196 number of works amounting to Rs. 3687.37 have been approved from January 1, 2015 to December 2015.
He also revealed that the expenditure of tank cleaning is more due to the reasons that deployment of tank cleaners and water tanks is also made to provide facilities on complementary basis on account of religious functions/ gatherings during national festivals like Independence day/ Republic Day, Amarnath Yatra, Navratras, Eid, Gurupurab etc.
As per Government figures, the revenue generated through tank cleaning in 2014-15 was Rs 5.42 lakhs and in 2015-2016 it was Rs. 4.30 lakhs while the expenditure incurred was Rs. 8, 51, 463 in 2014-15 and Rs. 6, 25, 400 in 2015-16.
