Srinagar, May 27: The State Government today revealed that over 700 posts in 147 blocks in ten districts of Jammu Division are lying vacant.
In a written reply to MLC Sham Lal Bhagat in Upper House, the Minister Incharge, Department of Rural Development and Panchayati Raj, stated that 710 posts of Block Development Officers (BDOs)/ Village Level Workers (VLWs)/ Multi-Purpose Workers (MPWs)/ Gram Savikas in Jammu Division are lying vacant.
According to the data provided by the Government, the highest numbers of posts are vacant in Rajouri district. In Rajouri, there are 19 blocks while 134 posts are vacant. Similarly, 51 posts are vacant in 20 blocks of Jammu district, 20 posts in 9 blocks of Samba, 53 posts in 13 blocks of Kishtwar, 84 posts in 17 blocks of Doda, 42 posts in 11 blocks of Ramban, 73 posts in 17 blocks of Udhampur, 87 posts in 18 blocks of Kathua, 69 posts in 12 blocks of Reasi and 97 posts in 11 blocks of Poonch.
The Minister Incharge said the posts of VLWs (Panchayat Secretaries) under direct quota have been referred to SSRB and as soon as the selection lists are received from the recruiting agency the posts will be filled up.
He said since the BDO posts are Gazetted cadre the department has already referred 79 posts of BDOs to the General Administration Department for direct recruitment. “The posts falling under promotion quota will be filled after fulfillment of all requisite formalities,” the Minister said.
