SRINAGAR, May 26: Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah today did not attend the proceedings of the Legislative Assembly, which paid tributes to former Chief Minister Mufti Mohammad Sayeed among eight other leaders who passed away over the past eight months.
The Independent MLA from Langate, Abdul Rashid Sheikh, raked up the absence of Mehbooba from the House which was paying tributes to her father.”Mehbooba Mufti is the Chief Minister of the entire State but today she should have cancelled all her engagements and been present here as we pay tributes to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed. Anyway, it is her personal matter also,” he said.
Roads and Buildings Minister Abdul Rehman Veeri, while participating in the discussion on obituary reference, defended the Chief Minister’s decision to stay away from the House today. “The Chief Minister did not take part in the obituary reference. It is not possible for her being a daughter. It is difficult for me, being a political worker of Mufti Sayeed to be here,” he said.
Veeri said the biggest tribute to Mufti would be ushering in peace, political stability and development in Jammu and Kashmir. “Our party (PDP) has decided to carry forward his mission,” he added.
The opposition National Conference leader and former Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, was also absent during proceedings of the day. He, however, tweeted that he will attend the session tomorrow as he was down with infection.
