SRINAGAR, May 25: Vigilance Organization Kashmir (VOK) has registered a case under Prevention of Corruption Act against officers and officials of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) for allowing an illegal construction of a commercial complex within the residential area of Mandirbagh Srinagar.
The case was registered following a joint surprise check, conducted by a team of VOK, which revealed that a 16 RCC column on the area of 34X68.6 Sq feet upto height of 10 feet from the ground level, including plinth beams, was illegally raised by Saleema wife of Gh Nabi Malik of Mandirbagh, without following building norms and proper permission in the said area from concerned Municipal authorities.
The concerned officers and officials of SMC, namely Bilal Ahmad Baba and Bashir Ahmad Bhat, then Building Inspector of Municipal Ward No. 5, and Mohammad Ashraf Warsi, then Enforcement Officer of SMC of the said area, in active knowledge and aid by way of abusing their official positions, in league with each other along with the beneficiary, willfully allowed to raise said illegal construction in violation of the rules and norms.
Accordingly Case under FIR No.13/2016 under Section 5(1)(d) r/w 5(2) J&K PC Act and Sections 120-B RPC in Police Station Vigilance Organization Kashmir, was registered against officers/officials of SMC Srinagar.
It is pertinent to mention that during year 2015- 16, VOK has registered four cases against the officers/ officials of SMC for indulging in corrupt practices. Besides, the organization has recommended departmental action against the delinquent public servants of the Corporation for their involvement/ misuse of their official positions in number of such matters.
