NEW DELHI: Most of the states and union territories have not yet sent the names of officers who could be considered for President’s Police Medal (PPM) for distinguished service and Police Medal for meritorious service, forcing the Union Home Ministry to send a reminder to them.
The Ministry had in March this year written to Home Secretaries and Director Generals of all states’ police, chiefs of Intelligence Bureau, Central Bureau of Investigation, National Investigation Agency and Special Protection Group among others, inviting recommendations for the award of service medals on the occasion of Independence Day– August 15.
They were asked to send their recommendations online by May 15.
“However, the requisite recommendations from most of the states, union territories, central armed police forces, etc., have not been received so far,” it said in a communique issued last week.
It may be appreciated that Home Ministry needs time to process the recommendations and to point out the short coming in the proposal and get the same rectified, the order said.
They have now been asked to send the recommendations by June 10. “Proposals received thereafter will not be considered for award on the occasion of Independence Day, 2016,” it said. (AGENCIES)
