JAMMU, May 24: To over see the arrangements of Dashar Maha Kumb at Shadipora in Wakoora tehsil of Ganderbal district in Central Kashmir falling on June 14 this year a Maha Kumb Celebration Committee and Pt. Omkar Nath Shastri was elected its chairman.
The meeting was attended by the prominent members of KP community, religious preachers, social activists and intellectuals. Those who attended the meeting included Dr Manmohan Shastri, president ASKPC, Ravinder Raina, Swami Kumar Ji, Kuldeep Raina of Samajik Vikas Sansthan, B L Saraf (retd) Sessions Judge, Sharda Nandan, Ashok Kumar Bhat, Dr A K Kaul, Dr S K Kalla, Prof M K Malla, Dr Ramesh Bhat, Bharat Raina, Com Mohan Lal, Nana Ji Dhar, Veena Gurtoo and Manoj Pandita.
The meeting appointed Dr A K Kaul as convener of the Committee, Dr S K Kalla, co-convener, Dr R K Bhat as secretary cum cashier.
Later the team called on Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh and apprised him of the decision of the community to take out a Yatra to Shadipora for participation in Dashar Maha Kumb mela which takes place after 75 years this year.
The delegation appealed the Deputy Chief Minister that the Government should make elaborate arrangements for the pilgrims including construction of 50 temporary bath rooms near the Sangam for them, make shift toilets and temporary shelters on June 13 and 14. Besides, the arrangements for security, medical facilities, transportation drinking water etc be also made, it demanded.
The Deputy Chief Minister assured the delegation that all the arrangements will be made for the pilgrims by the Government.
The Shadipora Maha Kumb as per the religious scriptures has same significance which the Kumb melas in other parts of country have.
At Narayan Bagh Prayag in Shadipora area of tehsil Wakoora there is a confluence of three sacred rivers i. e Vitasta (Jehlum) Sindhoo (Indus) and Krishen Ganga. The Hindus immerse the ashes of dead there. The ashes of first Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru as per his will were immersed here and at Bijbehara in South Kashmir district of Anantnag.
The Maha Kumb is the configuration of 10 Celsius bodies including Sun and it has a great religious sanctity as per Hindu mythology, said Pt. Omkar Nath Shastri chairman of the Celebration Committee.
