JAMMU, May 24: Residents of old Bahu Fort today gheraoed PHE officials over ongoing water crisis in the area and discriminatory attitude of officials with poor population of the area.
Irate over non-supply of water for days together, the residents of old Bahu Fort today gheraoed concerned PHE XEn, Virinder Kahjuria and other officials. They apprised the XEn that they are facing acute water shortage for last 7-8 months while the officials are adopting discriminatory attitude with the poor and Labour class of the area.
The people alleged that they are deprived of the water despite being living at bank of river Tawi and having biggest water installation in the vicinity that caters the potable water needs of entire South Jammu.
The locals alleged that PHE officials responsible for water supply operation in Bahu Fort restrict the supply to merely 15 minutes in 72 hours in old Bahu Fort area comprising Central Mohalla, Manhas Ghar, Nali Mohalla, Kaccha Talab, Bhramahin Mohalla, and other inner localities while new colonies are getting supply daily and timely.
They added that despite manifold increase in population of the area, PHE infrastructure remained outdated which were installed 30 years back and never updated.
The locals also alleged that the officials of PHE, which include just one permanent and few contractual employees, encourage massive illegal water connections in lieu of money.
The XEn assured to look into the matter and directed the lower rung officer to full fill supply need of the area on priority.
