NABARD launches LEDP

JAMMU, May 17: National Bank for Agriculture and Rural Development (NABARD) launched the Livelihood & Enterprise Development Programme in district Samba. The programme aims at creation of sustainable livelihoods amongst Self Help Group members. The programme was inaugurated by Vijay Kumar, the Chief General Manager of NABARD.
Speaking on the occasion, Vijay Kumar said that NABARD has been promoting the Self Help Group – Bank Linkage programme throughout the country from last more than two decades. He stated that poverty alleviation through livelihood creation is one of the stated goals of this microfinance movement. NABARD has sanctioned this LEDP to Kristu Jyoti Social Welfare Society, Samba wherein 90 members from matured Self Help Groups will be trained to prepare jute bags.
These jute bags will be procured by Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board for Parshad purposes. The LEDP has been prepared on project based approach encompassing the complete value chain and offering end to end solutions to the SHG members. The scheme has provision for refresher training, backward-forward linkages and handholding and escort supports. He urged upon the participants to take full advantage of the programme and earn their livelihood.
Surinder Singh, DDM, NABARD; V J Kaul, LDM, Rajesh Sharma, Director RSETI, Ram Dev Sharma, Area Manager, Grameen Bank, Sister Pushpa and large number of SHG members were present on the occasion.
